Mon 3. [3 April 1899] Lovely morning. Made some attempts at the
pronunciation of modern Greek. Reached Corfu [Kerkira] at 10 and
lunched at the hotel. Then for a drive up to a place called Canone
from whence we had an exquisite view across water and islands.
Then to the ruins of an old Doric temple by the sea, anemonies, irises,
cistus all in flower. Oranges on the trees, eucalyptus, roses out. So
home and presently on board. Left at 4. Mr Baron appeared. There
are some people called Pearson, Sir Wheatwood and lady with a
sister, lots of clothes and no hs. Perfectly heavenly afternoon. After
dinner played patiences with Mr Baron.
