Location

Sun 30. [30 January 1898] Woke very early; went out and saw the
Southern Cross and the pink light of dawn just coming. Asked the
Quarter Master when we were off and found that we had already got
there - there being Okos [Ocos] which is only 2 hours' from
Champerico. It all looked exactly the same; white verandaed houses,
huts, sand, surf, volcanos [sic]. The San JosÈ passengers began to
appear - a Miss Lewis, red haired pretty girl and a man called
Hoffmann with his wife and little girl. Also a cheerful gentleman called
[space left blank] who has business in Guatemala. Read Arabic. We
got off at 2 when I went to sleep. At tea we were opposite a great mt.
14000 ft, the base covered with cloud, the top just sticking out.
Beautiful phosphorus, a greenish colour, on all the waves.
