Sun May 7. [7 May 1911] I was in the mosque by 5.30 and worked till
12. Everyone most kind; the Sayyids helped to read the inscrips and
the sheikhs invited me into their rooms to measure. It was a delightful
experience to be living in a mosque for 2 days. After lunch slept. The
Vali called about 2 and stayed a long time. He said that the
difficulties in Yemen and Albania were due to bad administration.
Albania is going ill. Mrs T. Effendi called next, and afterwards the
French consul, M. Talausier [[Talansier[?]], a charming man and a
great sportsman. His chief achievements have been in S. America.
We walked on the walls together.
