Sat. 10. [10 February 1894] In the morning saw the Museum of the
Duomo with Luca's exquisite organ loft and Donatello's not so fine but
full of spirit the people rushing round in a frightful furia. Then the Badia
where there is a wonderful Filippino Lippi - the virgin appearing to St
Bernard and some charming tombs and cloisters. We eat chestnuts
outside bought from an old man in the street. We then saw some
frescoes by Castagno, a Cenacolo rather horrible with all the faces
drawn and folded into wrinkles and a general feeling of fear of coming
evil about it, and some very interesting frescoed portraits. In the
afternoon to the Uffizi. It rained a little.
