Friday 9th. [9 February 1894] Went to the Uffizi while Mary had her hair
washed. In the afternoon we walked about and everything was
chiuso! Finally we were taken round the Duomo by the light of a taper
- lovely sarcophagus of Ghiberti's, and tomb by Luca in the Sacristy
(a council of the Church was being held there!) and an interesting
portrait of Dante with the hill of the Purgatorio behind. Went to the de
Morgans who were out.
