This photograph was taken by Lieutenant A. W. D. Bentinck (1887-1962) with whom Bell describes visiting Duhok in November 1922. In a letter to her Father (GB/1/1/2/1/18/22) Bell writes that she met "Col. Dobbin with his ADC, Mr Renton and Col. Bentinck, a Guardsman and a charming man" to visit the Levy camp in Zakho before passing through Duhok.

Bentinck gave a lecture at the Royal Central Asian Society in London on December 12. 1924 on the topic of the Assyrians and this photograph may have featured as part of this talk.
