Photograph taken by Gertrude Bell in Myanmar, February 1903

Description

Burmese children seated in monastery. "We had the funniest visit. The monks haven't enjoyed anything so much for a long time; they laughed till their yellow robes fell off their bare shoulders.....an immense concourse of children gathered round closer and closer. I was of no account at all when Hugo appeared, until it came to the picture taking. We had to drive the children away while I photographed the monks but....I then took a consolation picture of all the children sitting in a row.".
