Description

Scene of the Siege of Lucknow during the 1857 Mutiny - British inhabitants of Lucknow took refuge here at the outbreak of the mutiny, and were besieged for five months, initially under the command of Sir Henry Lawrence who died early on in the siege. Residency is maintained as it was after the final relief; the Union Jack was flown constantly until Independence in 1947. Memorial in foreground.
