My dear Gertrude –

It’s a great disappointment to have no mail and no news of you at all – I had hoped that the arrivals would have brought me some letters, but they haven’t done so – and I’m left in grief –

George Lloyd turned up today and is to work immediately under me – which is excellent – While they have been away I have been making tours and had an interesting time – bar wind & rain – How & where is your brother? & how are you? Working very hard I suppose – I’m so glad I’ve seen your office and the beautiful Hotel Maurice –

My brother has gone to Belfast – some new command, but I don’t know what – However he seems happy –

This show, about which you probably know far more than I do, will get a move on soon inshallah – but there is nothing to be gained by too great hurry, and my eyes are fixed on Bulgaria – she really holds the key of the situation as far as many things are concerned – I’m grieved to hear that the Russians have gone as far south as Mosul while we are nowhere near Baghdad – But there was certainly no way of preventing it –
Tell me more news my news giver and believe me yours

Dick.
