23 Dec.
My dear Gertrude.

Home – to find two letters form you my dear – from Damascus you’ll have gone – but you say write till the 15th January – so I wrote and send you my love and good wishes for all journeys in all new years – yes – all stay-at-homes also –

I love your letters – I haven’t had a moment – having looked in here simply to write to you a line – I’ve come from the F.O. The thing has succeeded – they are pleased – Crowe complimentary. In its way a little triumph and I would like just to be congratulated by you –

Otherwise it is already forgotten - & I only think of the next adventure –

I’ll tell the Uncle – My dear, take care of yourself. You’re set to Hayil – god keep you.

I’ll write again tomorrow –

I wish I was with you –
Dick.
