Wed.
Dearest Moll. Thank you so much for your letter. I was much interested to hear about Mr Gosse’s lecture – it must have been quite delightful.
I came here yesterday to hear Uncle Tom give a lecture on the Women of Homer – quite excellent it was, most amusing; I don’t think I ever heard a better lecture. I go home tomorrow. There is a concert here tonight to which we are all going but I have not been able to discover what is being given except a symphony by the late lamented What’s his name, brother of Florence’s [?] [?], which I hear is good.
Don’t you think it would be awful fun to send Xmas cards to our guides? Ask Elsa. I should like to send one to Klotz and one to Pittracher – if this smiles on her. I wish she would look about for two very nice and suitable ones and we will send them when you come home in the name of all of us. I think they would be much pleased. Fran Wildt we might send one to, Franz, and the Rudolf if I only knew his name! Do think Herr Rudolf – [?] of the Solstein Hutte, Zirl, would find him?
I think it ought to.
Your affectionate sister,
Gertrude

Evolving Hands is a collaborative digital scholarship project between Newcastle University and Bucknell University which explores the use of Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) and Text Encoded Initiative (TEI XML) to enhance cultural heritage material. In this project, we have applied these methods to a selection of letters from the Gertrude Bell Archive.
