[4 September 1899] [To MKB] La Grave Monday Dearest Moll. I'm so miserable about the Belloved little QC. I sent you a telegram of condolence directly I got the letter, which was when I came back here after my tour. We shall never have a little yellow dog that we shall love as much again. It's really quite silly to become so much attached to a little pug; one feels so awfully unhappy when it is snatched from one. You must miss her most dreadfully.
I've just written all my news at enormous length to Papa, so I won't write any more to you. Only please tell Mother I loved her letters and am much interested about the Arnold thing.

It's awful about Alice P! Ever your most sympathetic sister Gertrude
