[4 September 1899] [To MKB] La Grave Monday Dearest Moll. I'm so miserable about the beloved little QC. I sent you a telegram of condolence directly I got the letter, which was when I came back here after my tour. We shall never have a little yellow dog that we shall love as much again. It's really quite silly to become so much attached to a little pug; one feels so awfully unhappy when it is snatched from one. You must miss her most dreadfully. I've just written all my news at enormous length to Papa, so I won't write any more to you. Only please tell Mother I loved her letters and am much interested about the Arnold thing. It's awful about Alice P! Ever your most sympathetic sister Gertrude

Evolving Hands is a collaborative digital scholarship project between Newcastle University and Bucknell University which explores the use of Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) and Text Encoded Initiative (TEI XML) to enhance cultural heritage material. In this project, we have applied these methods to a selection of letters from the Gertrude Bell Archive.
