My dear Sir Hugh,
I telegraphed to you at Rounton saying that I should be delighted to dine on Friday 10th. It is most kind of you to ask me. I was away when your letter of 30th, accompanying, the book-packet, reach here, and my brother took deliveries – I shall gladly deliver it.
As regards your daughter, I see from your note of 2nd that she has decided to go to Persia, and hope she will have started before I arrive, as I fear it will be getting hot now. If necessary I can send another message before I leave. As regards the publication and the India Office I cannot say off hand what it is, precisely, to which you allude, but will inquire from the Office and let you know the result tomorrow tomorrow evening, to which I am much looking forward.
Yours sincerely,
P. Z. Cox

Evolving Hands is a collaborative digital scholarship project between Newcastle University and Bucknell University which explores the use of Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) and Text Encoded Initiative (TEI XML) to enhance cultural heritage material. In this project, we have applied these methods to a selection of letters from the Gertrude Bell Archive.
