Hotel du Grand Eiger Pension Grindelwald {Wed} Tues. Dearest Father. There is a gap in our correspondence because I came over here today and my letters went to Rosenlaui, in spite of my telephoning my plans to them! I am therefore surprised to find that Mrs Strong is with you and to hear that the Webbs have come to Saltburn after all! I wonder how my dear Mamma likes that! It wouldn't want more than that the Bertram Russells shd could too! The weather is being perfectly accursed. It broke at 4 AM this morning, when we had a violent thunderstorm. Fortunately I was only coming down here today, and it cleared at 8.30 and we came down without rain. But it looks bad and the wind is in the wrong direction and the chances of a hut tomorrow are small. I find I can still afford another week! so I shall go back to Rosenlaui tomorrow if snows seem impossible and do a few more of my Belloved rocks which don't need such settled weather. I feel rather as if the Engelhörner belonged to me now and I shall not really mind being driven back to them. Besides, the Monkswells will be overjoyed, dear creatures! We may even then still try the Schreckhorn arête from the Grimsel side - I do rather pine for snow. But it's remarkable how good I am on rocks now!
I've been spending a most pleasant afternoon asleep. One has big arrears of sleep when one has been climbing a good deal. The small Lunns fell into my arms when I arrived and we have been exchanging photographs and alpine experiences! They are delightful little boys, but it rather makes me laugh to find myself an intimate of the Lunn family!
You will have had an enormous volume from me about Engelhörner climbs, from which you will see that I have not lived quite in vain.
Write here, I will try to make more successful arrangements about my letters! but as yet I can't foresee my moves.
My love to all my Belloved family, and the novel. Ever your very affectionate daughter Gertrude
