Saturday Dearest Father. I have just had a delightful letter from you, all the more welcome because I scarcely expected to get another letter here. You hint at all kinds of interesting events (Lords and Museums) of which I long to hear in detail. I hope you will tell me about them when we meet. I expect to leave here about Tuesday and stay at night in Vienna [Wien] to see Strzyg. But I will write and telegraph before I leave Vienna. I'm having, as usual, a very amusing time here. Lady Lowther has gone, so (as Miss Jibb would say) I'm at the hotel. Mr Fitzmaurice comes in almost hourly to see if there is anything I want and I lunch or dine almost daily with dear Mr Mounsey. I'm just going to a garden party at the Embassy where I shall see the Ambassador whom I have not met yet except just to exchange greetings. Mr Lorimer and I spent the afternoon together yesterday, very agreeably at Scutari and I dine with him tonight. I went to the Chamber one afternoon with Mr Fitzmaurice and saw all the celebrities. Today I spent the morning at the museum, mostly with the new director, Halil Beg who is brother to the lamented Hamdi Beg. Mr Mounsey and I have just been calling on Hamdi Beg's widow, who received us with the greatest affection and friendliness, and told us all about Hamdi Beg's last moments. I have got a few more things and people to see here which is an excuse for staying another day or two. But really it is always so amusing here that I should stay without an excuse. - I've just come in from the Embassy where I met a vast[?] of people, with the result that I'm dining with Sir Henry Babington Smith tomorrow, with the Ambassador on Monday, and with Sir Adam Block on Tuesday. The event of the afternoon was my reunion with Nazim Pasha (late of Baghdad)! He's coming to see me on Tuesday. I also became acquainted with the Sultan's chamberlain who has given me a much coveted permission to see the Old Serai on Tuesday afternoon. All this seems to point to my leaving C'ple on Wednesday. It was a very amusing party as you may guess from this brief outline. Ever Belloved Father your very affectionate daughter Gertrude
