April 1. Red Barns Coatham, Redcar. Dearest Mother. The little girls came home at 7, rather tired but seemingly very much pleased with their day. They wanted to go and see Miss Thomson but it was a cold night and I thought they had better not. We reconciled everything by agreeing to go to the station tomorrow morning and say goodbye to her. It has been a delicious day, but with rather a biting wind round the corners.
We were very much amused by your York rhymes and the drawing of you which we made out with some difficulty!

I do wonder if you are comfortably established and if your lodgings are nice. You must be having a delightful evening. Your very affectionate daughter Gertrude.
