Red Barns Coatham, Redcar. Dearest Mother. The weekly books are ú2.12/10d; they are so little this week because your last cheque paid them up to last Thursday. I liked the pattern you sent us very much, it is charming. I certainly think a green velvet train would be nicer than a black, don't you? But please I may wear green mayn't I? When am I coming to London and where shall I go when I arrive? Is there anything in particular you want me to bring with me? I propose bringing flower vases, but what about silver, lamps and candlesticks. We shall need them shall we not? It's so cold and grey here. I am just going to Clarence so goodbye. Ever your very affectionate daughter Gertrude.
