Bellagio. Dearest Mother. We are having such a nice time - and very peaceful, I think Papa is beginning to look better already. Today we came up here from Como full early and have spent several hours in strolling about through fields and vineyards. It is a wonderfully delicious place; unfortunately the day is cloudy and we can't see the Alps, but everything is full of the Spring, the fruit trees are all out and the ground is covered with primroses and crocuses and starch hyacinths.
We thought of you last night and wondered how you had prospered. I expect you are having a very amusing day today. We long to hear what it is all like.

Please give my love to all your dear hosts. Your affectionate daughter Gertrude
