Baghdad Nov [i.e. December] 2. Darling Mother. All details have gone to Father. This is just a line to say that I know we are having all your sympathy. It has been such a strain of anxiety but I am sure we have done right and now the decision is taken I am greatly relieved.
I had no letter from you last mail - probably two will come this week. I forgot to tell Father that I had his letter of Nov 18. I do hope Elsa will be back for Xmas.

I shall go tomorrow night, Sylvia leaving in the afternoon, to stay with the King on his farm for 3 days. He invited us both. I feel a need to rest and a little fresh air. Also I should be so lonely without Sylvia [third of page missing]
