Baghdad Nov 12 Darling Mother. That was an extremely interesting letter of yours, Oct 28-30. We were all thrilled by it, George by the account of Florence typewriting and Elsa and I at the thought of MacPherson and Novakowski having disappeared. However I don't mind having been scared to have dealings with Novakowski because I have got someone much better.
To act The Verge really does seem to me to be a supreme adventure. All these modern plays are eagerly borrowed by my colleagues so that I scarcely have time to read them myself.

I love to think of AnnaBell in the Labour Party - won't she be earnest! But she has chosen a bad moment to join it.

There! I've written to Father and Molly and Elsa has written to you so you'll have our news from various angles. I continue to think Elsa perhaps the nicest person in the world - don't you? Ever your very loving daughter Gertrude

Evolving Hands is a collaborative digital scholarship project between Newcastle University and Bucknell University which explores the use of Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) and Text Encoded Initiative (TEI XML) to enhance cultural heritage material. In this project, we have applied these methods to a selection of letters from the Gertrude Bell Archive.
