Baghdad July 10 Darling Mother. I've got your letter of June 8 and also the Heart of Yorkshire and I must write specially to tell you how charming I think the play. It's full of poetry and grace - acted in its own setting it ought to have a tremendous effect. The sentiment of it is so delicious. How pretty the costumes will be and the little modern scene will only emphasize them. But final allegory is the crown of it all - I do think it's so good. Doesn't it seem a pity that I shan't see it.
We're having an interesting time too, as you'll see in my letter to Father. I'm sure we've done the right thing, but there have been moments of great anxiety and but for Sir Percy we should never have succeeded. Once we've got Faisal onto his throne which might almost be in the next fortnight, he'll gradually take charge himself, I hope. But upon my soul he has got a difficult task before him and what amazes me is that he should want to be king of Iraq. However it's a mercy that he does.
I need not say that I shall not go to India this summer. I'm very well and I couldn't leave at this juncture. Ever your very affectionate and admiring daughter Gertrude
