Rounton Grange Sat. Dearest Mother. I've finished the chapter for Strzyg - only blocked out of course, there is a lot more work to be done on it, but the worst part is over. And what's more I think it's rather nate [sic]. I've been so absorbed in it that I haven't had a moment to think of anything else. Now I'm going for a walk on the moors to forget about it till after tea.
You know I go to the Shaw Stewarts on Monday? Ardgowan, Greenock. I fear I shall have to come straight home and not go to Moll yet. The next week I must write an article for Mr Prothero and even if I get home on Friday it leaves me very little time. I would rather go to her after it's done when I shall be through this overwhelming batch of work that has to be done in such a hurry. Your very affectionate daughter Gertrude
