95 Sloane Street Monday Dearest Mother. The train was absurdly crowded today. At York I looked about for a suitable carriage and found one at last with only one old party in it. To my surprise he greeted me with effusion and turned out to be Sir W. White. So we travelled up amicably together. I went straight to the office and had an interview with a very capable spectacled lady who used to be the organising sec. of one of the Suffrage societies and has seen the error of her ways and wants to work for us. I fancy she will make an excellent and very sensible speaker and I intend to follow the matter up.
When I came in I found a telegram from George Lloyd asking me to lunch today so I rang him up and asked him to dine with me. He came back yesterday. I asked Willie T. [Tyrrell] to come too but he was busy and is coming in after dinner. So I shall have a good all round view of the crisis. It's very serious I should think and anything might happen. Ever your affectionate daughter Gertrude
