On board the Imogen July 27 Dearest Mother. I'm having a mighty fine time, I must tell you. It was the greatest fun yesterday at the Selamlik. The Ambassador was more than cordial and all sorts of Turks and people were introduced to me, a thing I enjoy. Then he insisted on carrying me off to Therapia with him - the Embassy is there now. So I flew back to my hotel and packed and went down to the quay to meet him. The launch was not there and just as I was wondering whether I had gone to the right quay, up came Huguenin the director of the German Rly. So I introduced myself to him (we had corresponded) and he packed me and my box into his launch and steamed up the Bosphorus [Karadeniz Bogazi (Bosporus)] till we met Sir Nicholas coming down to fetch me. This morning I went into C'ple [Istanbul (Constantinople)] and did a lot of business and then came back to Therapia to lunch and now I have gone off with the O'Conors on their yacht to sail about these waters till Monday. It's perfectly delightful and they are both extraordinarily kind. By the way Sir N. is deep in - At the Works! and loves it, you will not be surprised to hear. I went with him to a polo match yesterday afternoon and met many interesting people, Turks and others. The only person I have not seen enough of is Mr Fitzmaurice the second dragoman, whom I think the most interesting man in C'ple. But as soon as I go back there I shall make him come and spend many hours with me. Ever your affectionate daughter Gertrude
