95 Sloane Street Wed. Dearest Mother. Nothing will give me greater pleasure than to send you furs - I quite agree with you that you ought to have a stylish boa! It's only right. I know of no better place than the Inter. Fur Co. The boa M [Maurice] and I gave Moll cost £60 and the one you gave F. [Florence[?]] if I remember about £40. I shall take those two prices as my limit on either hand and see what can be done tomorrow. I had a very comfy journey and arrived at 4. It's disgusting here, but I have to see about one or two things which will take up tomorrow and on Friday I shall go to the Lyalls. I was really very sorry to leave the Blumenthals - it was such a delicious perfect climate and country and they were so affectionate and kind. When I went away even Monsieur B. fell on my neck and embraced me!
Will you please give the enclosed to Maurice whom it concerns as well as me. I feel now a great desire to come home and I rather wish I were coming straight north tomorrow. My address from Friday to Monday is Swinford Old Manor, Ashford, Kent. Ever your affectionate daughter Gertrude

Evolving Hands is a collaborative digital scholarship project between Newcastle University and Bucknell University which explores the use of Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) and Text Encoded Initiative (TEI XML) to enhance cultural heritage material. In this project, we have applied these methods to a selection of letters from the Gertrude Bell Archive.
