About this item
95 Sloane Street. Friday. Dearest Mother. I've been so busy putting the house into commission that I have only time to write one line. The drawing room looks quite nice now, but when I arrived it looked as if no one ever had lived in it at all!
I travelled up to York with Mr Lowther who was extremely chatty. He is rather an old dear. At York he said was I getting out here? to which I replied with truth that I was, so we said an affectionate goodbye and I hid successfully in the next train.
I wonder how you are prospering this evening! Your affectionate daughter Gertrude
