Description
Detail of carving in temple - made from grey andesite. Built during Sailendra dynasty. Ten tiers (one is buried) - central stupa is surrounded by three circles of stupas and supported by five levels of square terraces. Each level has carved friezes: base showing hell and lower world, rising through the earthly to the celestial regions and nirvana at the top of the temple.
