July 12th. 74. Red Barns Coatham, Redcar. My dearest Papa On Friday we went on the sands, and dug a hole and let the water run in and after we went along a little way and saw a fisherman cleaning out his boat, there were some boys and they had a pretty little boat, it had sails and a little rudder. Miss Agle asked one of the boys to show Maurice how it sailed, he did so. It sailed very prettily, the old man said to the boy, come and work or I will break the boat all to pieces, the boy left it in the sea. Miss Agle beckoned for him to come and she put it safely on the shore. The next day we had Poppie Duck, and we were very happy we had our best doll. We had a nursery with doll's things scattered about. Mr Maurice put one of the dolls down on the floor and with one of {the} his engines he ran over it, Poppie played to us, P. is playing very well. I played the best I could, then we played at a little house with chairs and we put one of the old arm chair cushions down on the floor and put Muffy and Sluppy[?] and put the curtain round it to keep them there. We had some strawberries from Rounton, the best we have had this year. The duck is sitting on five eggs, she is going to have some young ones. The garden is growing very well Pilcher has done that bed, it looks very pretty. Yesterday it was wet after dinner but it brightened up in the evening and we were able to go out for a few minutes to gather poppy a [sic] nosegay we had a beautiful rose in it, I think that it was from my garden. We've been out this morning and when we get our letters off we are going to paste pictures in our scrap book and to read. [In GB's handwriting:] My love to all G Bell
