Monday 37 Cadogan Place. Dearest Mother. I have had a very successful afternoon - Mrs Wellesley and I looked at photographs together and she then came back to tea here. She is a stupid woman, but I rather like her. Amy has apparently given her glowing accounts of all of us - she has a deep admiration for you, from afar. I then went to see Agnes Goldman whom I found in bed with her vein, but perfectly well otherwise and very happy. She looked charming in her nightgown with a long long string of pearls wound round her neck. She and her spouse are so much bitten by antiquities that they are going to do some excavating on their own account in Asia Minor. Doesn't it sound fun! One of the Morrisons came in and we all talked and then more people, so I came away; promising to go and see her again. I have been reading Arabic and am now going out to dine with the Yates Thompsons. This scrawl is being written while Lizzie is doing my hair.
Viel Vergnügen! Ever your very affectionate daughter Gertrude
