Ap 8 Red Barns Coatham, Redcar. Dearest Mother. I wrote to Sloane St last night asking if they could have me today, but they telegraphed this morning to say they couldn't - I suppose Grandmamma is bothered by all this troop of people arriving. So after much consideration, I decided to go up with Papa at 5, sleep at King's Cross and go and see Florence after breakfast. I hope this is the best thing to do - from your letters I thought it would be better to go up, not counting the fact that I should very much like to see her.
The quarterly wages are due - would you send Papa a cheque for them? The new girl has been here a fortnight. Mrs Stevenson is going for a four days' trip to Scotland with her daughter next Thursday and would like to have her money in time.

I have settled with May that the cleaning should be done while we are away - unless you think otherwise. Ever your affectionate daughter Gertrude.

It is very sad that Hugo is not in the Select.
