Wednesday British Embassy, Berlin. Dearest Mother. Thank you so much for sending Nansen. I expect he will arrive tomorrow. Will you send the second vol to 95? I went yesterday morning with Miss Pereira to the Museum. I like her; we had a pleasant tete à tête dinner the night before. She is very agreeable to talk to. After it I went to a ball with all the others - they had dined out first. It was a very amusing ball; we all danced madly and were rather sleepy yesterday. Florence and I took Miss P. to Charlottenburg in the afternoon. There is a chapel there containing the monuments of Fred. William III, and Queen Louise and the old emperor and empress which is quite worth seeing. The tomb of the Königin Luise is very charming - it was done by the same man who did the statue of Frederic the Great. The Ritchies called in the afternoon, I was so glad to see them. I met them too this morning at the Museum and walked round with them for a little. He seems nice and amusing. They have been asked to tea tomorrow. We went to another ball last night at the von der Gröbens - rather nice, but F. and I were sleepy. Over 100 little friends have been calling upon us this afternoon! It was amusing; a lot of nice people came.
Tonight is an off night; I hope we shall go to bed early! Ever your affectionate daughter Gertrude.
Would you mind asking Miss Skinner to give you Butler's Purgatorio and have it sent back to the L.L. in my name. They have asked for it.
