Thursday 95 Sloane Street. Dearest Mother. Alas! Kate Smith won't come under a housekeeper, so that's over. Sir John H. left England today. I wrote this morning to Mr Elliot, but have not yet heard from him. If he can't come I will write Sir S.W. I have finally decided to come north tomorrow at 2.15. I don't like not to be there - I can read Strzygowski all the way in the train, pace you! I shall come back here on Sat. by the late train.
I must tell you I love Miss Haldane. I went to tea with her yesterday. The rest when we meet. Your affectionate daughter Gertrude
