Red Barns Coatham, Redcar. Dearest Mother. I have just heard that Papa is coming home to dinner and I am so glad. Elizabeth was very cross though! My gown came from Knowell this morning - it is charming, I am so glad I didn't have a black one. I had a delightful dancing lesson, learnt two more parts of the sword dance and began the minuet which Miss H. insisted upon. It is lovely, you must learn it the first dancing lesson you are here. It was so fine this afternoon, a rough sea almost up to the esplanade. I walked a long time and then came in and did the history for tomorrow.
I hope you are reconciled to being in London, but oh I wish you were here! Ever your very affectionate daughter Gertrude.

My love to Auntie B.
