95 Sloane Street Sat. Dearest Mother. Father will tell you that was rather a poor thing yesterday owing to a too strong tonic Parkinson gave me; but he gave me a sleeping draught last night and I feel better today but rather slack. I am not going to do at all much next week. P. has forbidden me to speak on Monday to my immense relief!
As for Father he is behaving in a preposterous manner. He looked as ill as he could be today and he says he intends to come up on Monday. I wish he would not go to a play on Tuesday; it can't be good to burn the candle at all ends like that. I am not going because P. said I was to go to bed at 10 and that is what I am going to do. If Father wd like I wd try to get two people to dine and play Bridge on Tuesday. The Richmonds are engaged and so is Willie I know. Your affectionate daughter Gertrude

The account of the W.G. ceremony is delightful. I wish it had been called the Penny Parlour!
