Nov 8. Dearest Mother. I had the most enchanting evening with Reinach. I got there at 7.30 and left at 11.30 and we talked without ceasing all the time. After dinner we sat in his library while he showed me books and books of engravings and photographs and discoursed in the most delightful manner. He is 46, is Reinach, and he has published over 40 volumes! He does nothing but work - never goes out, never takes a holiday except to go and see a far away museum. And the consequence is he knows everything. I like him so much. This morning, after trying to see de Vogué who is unfortunately not in Paris, I went to the Bibliothèque Nationale. Reinach had given me a letter to one of the directors and I was received with open arms. They are most kind. I looked at 2 wonderful Greek MSS - illuminated - from 12 to 3.30! and I am going back there tomorrow to see ivories and more precious MSS which they will have out for me. It's perfectly delightful. I shd like to do nothing else for 6 months. Then I walked up to the Av. du Troc. and left a card on Lady Austen Lee who was out. When I came in I found a very polite note from her asking me to tea on Thursday, but I can't go for Reinach is going to show me his museum that day - St Germains - and I feel sure I shall not be back in time.
The Stanleys dine with me tonight and we go to a play. Ever your affectionate daughter Gertrude
