Sat. 6. [6 December 1902] Sea like oil, pretty warm. Mrs Gascoyne is
a daughter of Sir Douglas Galton and knows Grandpapa and the
Poynters. Gilbert extremely funny at breakfast about his history
examination. They gave him a quotation from C...... to translate and
comment on: Le roi me lava la tete comme est la coutume des rois.
He translated The king washed my head as is their custom and
added Further comment is unnecessary. He remarked the other day
that he always confused cricket with pingpong. Temp. 88? in the cabin
and 86? in the deck. A few points of land to be seen far away. I
finished the Upanishad book, feeling very sleepy. Miss Muir dined
with us and Bridge.
