Sun 4. [4 March 1900] Very hot. Went into the Consulate early to
photograph. At 11 Dr R. [Rosen] Ch and I started off to Abu Ghosh
down the Jaffa [Tel Aviv-Yafo (Joppa)] road. From Kolonia the
country was unknown to us. Very pretty over the hill. Charming village
with big Crusader church and amiable inhabitants. The church is built
over a well for is one of the many Emmauses. Walked up to the top of
the hill and had a lovely view - the foothills, the Plain of Sharon and the
sea. Forground [sic] full of anemones. Got in before 5.
