Sun 8. [8 May 1898] Chocolate at 8, breakfast at 10, tea 4, dinner 6.30 is our programme. Made friends with the Belgian Consul at Peking [Beijing]. He has a French friend with him an engineer M. de Rival. The Consul and I had a long walk after dinner.
