Location

Tues 24 [24 May 1898] Bright and hot. Read the Recherche du
l'Absolu and sat on the forward part of the boat with Edouard Morel
watching the island of Socotra past which we steamed from 12 to 4.
1001 Nights island. We saw a red Èpave which is all that remains of
the Aden. Barren rocky and sandy, a few trees on the top of the hills
so I suppose there is greenery inside. Heavy rain in the afternoon.
The others played the pallet game but I wisely refused. The ourang
outang is dead, but the baby is recovering. After dinner the
Commandant Seurat taught me tric trac.
