Tues. 11. [i.e. 10 August 1897] Off at 4 with Papa, E. Pic and LÈon for
the Bec de L'homme. Mr Hicks appeared just before we started. He
was off with Mathon to the Breche. A long 21/2 hours very steep over
grass covered with Edelweiss to the foot of the glacier. There we
roped for half an hour or so after which we breakfasted on the arete.
