Thurs 7. [May 1914] Off to Damascus [Dimashq (Esh Sham, Damas)], Mr Devey and M al M [Muhammad al Ma'rawi] to see me off. Parted with F. [Fattuh] at Rayyaq [Rayak] whence he went to Aleppo [Halab]. Very lovely over the Lebanon, high snow and spring green. Mr Cumberbatch met me and took me to the Consulate. Mr Grain, judge from Alexandria, and Mr Honey dined.
