Wed 12. [12 April 1905] Rode with Mr Orr to the cave of St Peter
where there is a small capel [sic] and burial ground - charming place.
Near by is the head of the sphynx, very much effaced. Photographed
it tant bien que mal. Back to my tents to read the Times and lunch.
After lunch I photographed all Rifa'at Agha's possessions. He has an
Armenian manuscript of the Psalms with decorated capital letters and
headings, chiefly interesting because there were several examples of
the bird[?] letters. The Pottons came to see me at tea time and Mr Orr
dined. Very hot day.
