Thurs 23. [23 February 1905] Woke after dawn, a lovely clear day
with a very cold wind. Rode all day in a sweater under my coat.
Gave a lira between 'Awad and 'Akl who seemed quite pleased. Off
at 8 and followed the ghadir in which we were which led us in a B line
to the hills and was also rather better going. Arabs nearly all the way.
The Druzes stopped everywhere to drink water and were
consequently always thirsty. In the valley at the foot of the hill I
stopped with my servants to lunch. Fa'iz also joined us but the others
went on to some Arabs It was 12.30. We were about 21/4 hours from
here to the tents, about 61/2 altogether as against 9 the first day. Had
a bath and changed all my clothes but did not get rid of all the fleas!
Gave each of the 3 shuyukh 2 naps, and each of the 3 boys 2 mej.
They all seemed pleased. After dinner went up to the Sheikh's house
and drank tea and coffee and talked.
