Wed 31. [31 December 1902] H [Hugo] and I drove off miles away to see
Kolhapur whom we did not find, but called on the Ferrises, deadly
people. Home to lunch after which we went to the Polo. A fearful
crowd. I saw few people, Mr Talbot and the Moncrieffs and Mrs
Burns[?], but watched Polo and saw Jodhpur make a magnificent
goal against Patiala. He ran the ball down a 3rd of the field and struck
in from miles away. A very sporting game was going on between
Bikaner and Hyderabad. H. dined with Arthur and I expected Mr
Chirol, but he did not come. Talked to Mr Strachey before dinner and
the Daveys after and early to bed.
