Location

Tues. 2 [2 December 1902] Warm and fine. Talked to Mr Dundas
and Major Byng and wrote letters. We got to Port Said about 3, a grey
scirrocco [sic] day and I had a headache, but it was a great pleasure
to hear and speak Arabic. H and I telegraphed and walked all
through the native quarter where I got excellent fresh dates, along the
edge of the horrible shiny lakes and so across the spit and down to
the sea. We sat on the sand and eat dates and smoked and then
walked home in the sunset. Had tea and shopped a tropical outfit for
Hugo a big hat and an umbrella; met Sue and went up onto the
Casino balcony where we found the Muirs, Gascoynes and Byngs.
There we sat for a little and then came back to find the coaling not
finished. So I did not dress but wrote letters till dinner and then played
Bridge after. Uncomfortable and dirty. The cabin very stuffy; had a
very sleepless night.
