Thurs 10. [10 July 1902] Got up at 12 and started at 1 AM. But when we got to the Schˆnb¸hl Alp the clouds began to blow up. We waited some time under a rock till the rain came. Ulrich went down to the Chalets to see if we could take shelter there and came back saying dubiously "Dere is pig." However we went down and found one without pig and lay on some hay till past 4 when the rain and thunder decided us to give up the expedition. Got back about 5 and went to bed till lunch time. It rained all the afternoon. I finished L'Etape and began Sir A Lyall's English in India and was rather bored and cold.
