Wed. 21 [21 August 1901] Ulrich and Heinrich Fuhrer arrived at 9 - great joy - we went up the rope railway to the Reichenbach Falls and walked on to Rosenlaui. Met Lily Grant Duff who is staying here. Lunched at the hotel, charming place. Opposite me a Mrs Freeman whose husband is apparently a great authority. Left at 2 and walked up to the Dossen h¸tte up very steep woods and a moraine, a nevÈ and some rocks. I was pretty well done when we got up about 5.30. Beautiful view, a cloud sea in the valleys, the great rock of Engelhorn opposite, the line of snows of the Wetterhorn, Mettelhorn and Rosenhorn - far away Pilatus and the Jura touched by the sunlight. Most comfortable hut. Phantom armies of light mists walking over the floor of cloud. Red sunset.
