Sat 9. [9 June 1900] Down the most appalling road for 3 hours,
walking most of the time. Blazing hot. Followed the carriage road to
Nahr el Kelb which we reached about 12, I feeling very ill. Hot 2 hours
ride into town. Called at the Consulate and found our luggage had not
turned up. Hotel Allemand Bleich, most comfortable. A bath and tea
and then out shopping.
