Fri. 5. [5 January 1900] Off between 9 and 10 and home very hot.
Nina and Dr R. [Rosen] went down to the monastery. I contented
myself with looking at it from a hilltop where I met my Frenchman. The
light not so lovely as yesterday. Lunched at the Good Samaritan and
very slowly home by the bare baking hot valley. Charlotte drove.
Home before 5, rather tired, with the sun and heat. Found a heap of
letters, rather disturbing. All about Aunt Ada's {health} illness and
Maurice's volunteering. Much bothered. To bed early.
