Tues. 7 [7 June 1898] Went to the Museum with M. [Maurice] and Mr Hoare; then to St Sophia, the Ahmedieh and the Bazaar which has all been pulled down and built up new since my time. Got our passports. After lunch saw about luggage and then took a caique and rowed up to Eyoub, sailing back. Golden Horn quite lovely. Great mass of the Suleimanieh standing up, Mahmudieh and Selim (?) further on. Early dinner, down to the station. Wonderful yellow light. Train left at 8.15. Very comfortable; sleeping carriages to ourselves. Merry supper.
